UPM SERDANG, 11 June 2026 - Planetary health is no longer a future concern but a present reality, with climate change, natural disasters, pollution, and ecosystem degradation increasingly affecting human health.

The Naib Canselor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Putra Malaysia, Dato’ Prof. Ir. Dr. Ahmad Farhan Mohd Sadullah FASc said the launch of the UPM Planetary Health and Sustainability Blueprint represents a strategic initiative to harness multidisciplinary expertise in addressing complex issues linking humans, animals, and the environment.

He explained that the planetary health approach takes a holistic view of ecosystems and aligns with sustainable development goals, serving as a guide for researchers to develop solutions through research, innovation, and community engagement.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Prof. Dr. Zamberi Sekawi highlighted that the rise of zoonotic diseases such as COVID-19, SARS, and H1N1 demonstrates the strong interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health, reinforcing the need to strengthen the One Health approach.

He also emphasized the importance of collaboration between universities, government agencies, industry, and communities to ensure research outcomes are translated into impactful policies and innovations for societal well-being and national sustainability.

This initiative reflects UPM’s continuous commitment to advancing planetary health and sustainability through research, innovation, and strategic collaboration.
