UPM Makes History as World's First Higher Education Institution to Index Malay-Language Scholary Books in SCOPUS

Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) has made history by becoming the world's first higher education institution (HEI) to successfully index its collection of Malay-language scholarly books in the international Scopus database.

This achievement has also earned recognition from ASEAN Records and Asia Records, further elevating the status of the Malay language as a language of knowledge on the international stage.

As of 21 July 2026, a total of 271 book titles published by UPM Press have been indexed in Scopus, including 73 titles in the Malay language — a clear testament to the ability of local scholarly works to meet global academic publishing standards.

The Director of UPM Press, Prof. Ir. Dr. Muhammad Tariq Hamid Sultan, FASc, said the achievement was the result of continuous efforts by the press to ensure local scholarly works, particularly those in the Malay language, receive recognition on par with international publications.

This achievement further strengthens UPM's position as a leader in high-impact scholarly publishing, while opening up more opportunities for academics to publish internationally recognised Malay-language works.
