KUALA LUMPUR, February 23 - Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) won 5 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze at the Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2019. UPM sent a total of seven participants to MTE 2019 which was held in Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), and all the participants had successfully won medals.
The 5 gold medals bagged by UPM were:
Silver Medals in the Mentor-Mentee in Research Innovation Skills Through Global I-Lead STEM Camp were bagged by Dr. Muhammad Alif Muhammad Latif, Dr Muhammad Aliff M. Latif, Dr Suriati Paiman, Dr Zurina Zainal Abidin, Dr Khalina Abdan, Prof Norihan Md Ariffin and Noorsuhaily Ali (Centre of Foundation Studies for Agricultural Science, Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering). Winners of the Bronze Medal in Interactive Learning: The Menstrual Cycle Game were Dr Mashitah Shikh Maidin, Dr Christina Yong Seok Yien, Dr Nurul Izza Ab Ghani and Nur Hafizah Mohammed (Faculty of Science).
The awards were presented by YB Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, the Deputy Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change.
According to Prof. Dr. Mohd Basyaruddin Abdul Rahman, the chairman of the main committee of UPMSTEM, this was the first time UPM had participated in STEM MTE and had gained recognition in its involvement in STEM with the community and STEM teaching innovations. He said that in fact a few books, practice modules and products had also acquired copyrights from MyIPO.
“All STEM participations from UPM have impacted the community and have the potential to grow further to industrial level,” he added. He commented that to date, UPMSTEM had conducted various flagship projects including the Jom Sains Carnival, Noble Laureate Outreach Camp, Global I-Lead STEM Camp & International STEM Olympiad and Seeds of Science. – UPM
