SisaSMART@Bintulu Strengthens Smart Waste Management and Community-Based Circular Economy

Efforts to enhance environmental sustainability and the circular economy continue through the implementation of the SisaSMART@Bintulu initiative, a smart, technology-driven waste management approach that emphasizes community participation.

This initiative is carried out with the involvement of researchers from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) in collaboration with local authorities to improve the efficiency of waste management and promote recycling practices among the community.

SisaSMART@Bintulu focuses on developing a more systematic waste management system through the use of smart waste collection points and data-driven approaches, in line with the circular economy concept that emphasizes the optimal reuse of resources.

Community involvement is a key element in ensuring the success of this initiative, including awareness programs and recycling activities aimed at fostering a culture of sustainability among local residents.

This initiative not only supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 11 and SDG 12), but also has the potential to serve as a reference model for the implementation of smart waste management systems in other areas in the future.
