UPM signs a letter of intent of cooperation with Steinbeis Malaysia Foundation

SERDANG, Aug 3 - Halal Products Research Institute (IPPH), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) signed a letter of intent of cooperation with Steinbeis Malaysia Foundation (STMY) to enhance halal product quality development and expand the halal cosmetics market to the United Kingdom.

According to the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Dato' Sri Nancy Shukri, today's global halal market is a rapidly growing economic sector in Asia, Middle East, Europe and the United States.

"Malaysia, which has a Muslim majority population, can offer greater opportunities by providing a worldwide launch platform to businesses that are poised to innovate and are competitive," he said.

UPM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry and Community Network), Prof. Dr. -Ing. Ir. Renuganth Varatharajoo said that halal based cosmetic products have always been the main choice, especially among Muslim consumers.

"I believe that the collaboration between UPM and STMY is able to create better research and development in the future for this industry ," he said

Prior to that, the letter of intent of cooperation between IPPH, UPM and STMY was signed by Prof. Dr. Ing Ir. Renuganth Varatharajoo, with STMY Foundation Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Reezal Abdul Latif witnessed by Dato' Sri Nancy Shukri.

Also present, Chairman of El Hajj Products Sdn. Bhd, Tan Sri Ghazali Sheikh Abdul Khalid, Director of IPPH UPM, Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd Yazid Abd. Manap, CEO of Muamalat Youth Foundation, Dato' Noor Azman Idris and Chief Operating Officer of Innovation Agency, Abdullah Arshad.

IPPH UPM intends to make the research institute one of Malaysia's leading and internationally recognised halal institutions. – UPM
