SERDANG, August 26 – Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Alumni Centre together with the Association of Cancer Networks of Selangor and the Federal Territory (KanWork) organised a Charity Hi-Tea 2017 at UPM’s Main Hall to help raise fund for cancer patients’ activities.
KanWork chairperson, Dr. Mazanah Muhamad said that KanWork needs a substantial amount of funding to enable them to provide assistance to cancer patients, cancer survivors and their dependents.
“Today’s event is one of KanWork’s core programmes in raising fund to finance the activities and welfare of cancer patients such as cancer education and support programmes, social and recreational activities and cancer awareness programmes for local communities.
“KanWork does not have a permanent source of income since its inception in 2005. Therefore, any contributions and support from either individuals or organisations are very much appreciated," she said.
Also held at the event were the launch of MyGift2KanWork by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) chairperson, Dato’ Hajah Mariam Mas Yacob; lucky draws and a cancer education exhibition.
The launch introduced http://donate.kanwork.org as a fund raising platform that would enable the public to channel their contributions directly to the association.
UPM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datin Paduka Dr. Aini Ideris voiced her hope on UPM being able to consistently be of assistance to KanWork Association in ensuring communities are well aware and informed on cancer.
“I am confident that with the involvement of UPM’s Cancer Resource and Education Centre (CaRE) and the Alumni Centre, help and support will be intensified into revving up cancer awareness activities for the general public,” she said.
The 300 participants who attended the event were KanWork members, corporate organisations, cancer patients and survivors, volunteers and the public.
Meanwhile, Selangor’s Tengku Permaisuri, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin has delightfully agreed to be a patron of KanWork from the 17th of August 2017.
