On 27 July 2018, Pepper Cultivation Ceremony was held at one of the UPM Bintulu’s sampling pepper farm. The ceremony was completed by YB. Dr. Annuar Rapa'ee, Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research of Sarawak who is also the Assistant Minister of Public Health and Housing of Sarawak. Our Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Zulkifli Idrus also attended the ceremony together with the Director of Research Management Centre, Prof. Mohammad Hamiruce Marhaban.
This ceremony is in conjunction with Pepper Farm Sarawak Research Project @UPM Bintulu which came to result after the meeting between Prof. Dato 'Dr. Husaini Omar, the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research and Innovation at that time, as the representative of UPMKB research team with by YB. Dr. Annuar Rapa'ee.
Pepper Farm Sarawak Research Project @UPM Bintulu are focusing on to enhance the interest of the community in crop farming activities, and also creating and maintaining UPM’s cooperation with communities, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations. There are nine pepper-based research projects such as fertilizer and fertilization, pepper support structure, pest and pepper disease, pepper product quality, economy, and marketing.
YB Dr. Annuar Rapa'ee also suggested that UPMKB to focus on Sarawak pepper research so that the development of Sarawak pepper will continue to be sustained and contribute to the progress of industry and society.
