SERDANG, July 25 - The International Food Research Conference (IFRC 2017) organised by the Faculty of Food Science and Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) is a platform for regional and global cooperation in leading the food research industry.
UPM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dato 'Dr. Husaini Omar, said issues related to food research were critical as foods could directly affect the well-being of consumers.
“This multi-disciplinary conference covers key areas in food research including Food Processing and Bioprocessing, Food Engineering, Food Safety and Quality, Functional Food and , Post-Harvest Technology, Food Service and Management and Halal Food," he said.
He said the organisation of the conference is in line with UPM’s role as a centre of excellence for agricultural education in developing skilled manpower for related industries, especially the food sector.
Prof. Dato 'Dr. Husaini also expressed his pride with UPM’s achievement for being ranked the 25th in the world and first in the ASEAN region in the field of 'Food Science and Technology' as announced by the Shanghai Ranking's Global Ranking of Academic Subject (GRAS) 2017 on July 17.
The Chairman of the Organising Committee, Prof. Dr. Russly Abdul Rahman, added that the conference created an academic network and strengthened the collaboration between UPM and related agencies in food research.
The three-day conference received a participation of 300 speakers from 17 countries including Malaysia, Ireland, Japan, Pakistan, Iran, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, India, The Philippines, Sudan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Nigeria, Australia and South Korea.
Also organised were poster exhibitions and IFRC booth exhibits which featured more than 10 food research and technology development products. - UPM
